good work!
I try 0.02 on 1.3a nightly and slashzilla don't appear automatically in sidebar.
I must install it manually to.I've some suggestion:
can you move comments number on right side to bottom side (under headline).
I think this will enable more horizontal space to headline text.keep you work ahead!

I wish to open headline link in new tab.

Thanks for all the feedback everybody. To address a few suggestions, the next version of Slashzilla will allow customization of the headline list. This seems to be a popular request. Look for it on Monday or possibly Tuesday.

For those that are watching, I apologize for the inactivity the last week and a half. For those that don't know, I am a college students and I just got through finals week, so I have been busy studying and such. I do have customization partially finished and I expect that it will be ready to post by Saturdayish. Part of the delay has been a bug in the Mozilla engine that is making it difficult to store user preferences, a necessary component for customization. I am exploring a few options to get around this problem.
For those that are curious, the bug in question is the same one that is making it impossible for people to use addpanel.xul to add the Slashzilla panel automatically. Basically, the Mozilla component that allows code to access the user's profile directory fails under Windows (and maybe Mac OS). I am playing around with a method of skirting around the bug, but it requires code that is platform-dependent. Obviously this is not desirable.
Another option I am exploring is the use of cookies to store the user preferences. This should work pretty damn well, so I'm thinking until someone on the Mozilla team fixes the bug I'll go with this. The downside is that someone can't easily open a simple RDF file and view their Slashzilla prefs, something I would like to have.
Anyone have any suggestions? Write platform-dependant code to skirt around the bug or use cookies and make it impossible to view a single preferences file?

A breakthrough today! I found out that the preference engine in Mozilla can be used to store customized preferences. I am writing the code the utilize this right now. Look for customization tomorrow.

I posted v0.03 today. The most significant new feature if the ability to customize the article list that is given. Simply click on the customize button at the bottom of the sidebar. You will be presented with a window allowing you to edit the JavaScript that is used to render the material. It's kinda dirty right now, my plan for the next release is to allow for straight text entry so we can eliminate all the doc.writeln calls in there and clean it up a lot.
To those that are paying attention: Thanks for the support!
Also, for some reason the download counter on the install page is WAY flakey... don't trust it since it seems to go DOWN day-by-day rather than up....

Was wondering if there was some way of determining what headlines it pulls from the site. When I look at the main Slashdot site, I see that some articles are missing from Slashzilla. Any idea why that is? Adding a way to specify which topics/sections we would like to see in Slashzilla would be very helpful.

I have not seen it mentioned since Dec '02, but I also would appreciate the capability to right click on a headline and open it in a new tab. I am using the .05 version with Firebird on W2KSP4. Thanks.

Good job with slashzilla! I just have one issue (also mentioned in the 5th comment above: http://slashzilla.mozdev.org/notes.html#5 ), is there any way to open the links in a new tab? That would make SlashZilla tremendously useful.
Thanks!
